A Few Shots from Yet Another Winter Storm in Metropolis, Illinois

View of Girard Street in Metropolis

This morning as I stood outside in relatively okay temperatures (30ish) before daybreak and admired the clear sky as the birds started to chirp, I thought back to Monday...

View of Ferry Street in Metropolis

Monday I put on 2 pairs of long johns, a pair of jeans, a tee shirt, a long sleeved shirt, a sweatshirt, 2 hoodies, ear muffs, a scarf and gloves so that I could take a little trek over to Ferry Street and see how things looked... Things did not look good...

I stopped at many corners to get a shot of the ice covered trees with the sun behind them, but this shot was my favorite - taken at the corner of 9th and Girard, I think...

After picking Evan up one afternoon this week, we drove through Fort Massac and I caught some lovely tree shadows...

And I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this sunset shot I caught while standing on the front lanai...

LAST Tuesday Night's Sunset...

You may ask why I'm showing you a sunset from a week ago ... because it was lovely and I never got around to sharing it with you... and that's sometimes the way the cookie crumbles...

06/25/13 Sunset at the Metropolis Bridge

There's just almost nothing as relaxing to me as watching the sun go down on the water...

A "Loungy" Day and A Picture of the River...

I said to you yesterday that we might jaunt off to the First Ever Lusk Creek Cook Off and the Downtown Music and Arts Festival in Paducah... but I'm afraid we didn't feel quite that ambitious.

After lunch on the screened in patio, a couple of segments of that newish show, World's Worst Tattoo's and a bit of catching up around the house we did talk ourselves into running to Paducah on a couple of errands and I was delighted to see the sky begin to come into focus as we made our way onto the bridge...

Enjoy!

Seniors - Alecia

A couple of shots taken this week on a
Senior Session at Metropolis Airport...

We're going back for another run on this shoot as schedules got a little wacky and we weren't able to meet as early as we wanted.  However our timing for these silhouette-esque sunset shots was impeccable...

Giraffes and Bridges and Sunsets... Oh My! - A Downtown Paducah Photo Blog -

***

I had the opportunity over the weekend to make a spin through Downtown Paducah with a friend and take a few shots.  I love Downtown Paducah - it's such a quaint little place - very rich in history ...

I took a few unplanned shots while crossing "the blue bridge"...
I'd give my eye teeth to get in the middle of that bridge for about 20 minutes with traffic stopped...
The two-span arch bridge is the I-24 bridge.
In the photo below you can barely see the trusses of the Metropolis Bridge (completed in 1917).
If I'm not mistaken, the smoke-stacks are Electric Energy, Inc - (Coal power plant - Joppa, IL)

My favorites came from Downtown Paducah though ...
my initial intention had been to shoot the Irvin Cobb building and the steeples with the sun setting, but my chosen perch left me with a multitude of telephone poles and wires in the shot - and with the sun setting fast, I decided I would have to wait for another day to get the shot I'm after...

The absolute best shots o' the day (in my opinion) were a suggestion of my pal
and came from the Mentor House Gallery at 332 North Sixth -

With this
being my total FAVE of the day!
