A Bit from a 2009 Sunset Abandoned Building Adventure...

A Few Shots from Yet Another Winter Storm in Metropolis, Illinois

View of Girard Street in Metropolis

This morning as I stood outside in relatively okay temperatures (30ish) before daybreak and admired the clear sky as the birds started to chirp, I thought back to Monday...

View of Ferry Street in Metropolis

Monday I put on 2 pairs of long johns, a pair of jeans, a tee shirt, a long sleeved shirt, a sweatshirt, 2 hoodies, ear muffs, a scarf and gloves so that I could take a little trek over to Ferry Street and see how things looked... Things did not look good...

I stopped at many corners to get a shot of the ice covered trees with the sun behind them, but this shot was my favorite - taken at the corner of 9th and Girard, I think...

After picking Evan up one afternoon this week, we drove through Fort Massac and I caught some lovely tree shadows...

And I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this sunset shot I caught while standing on the front lanai...

A Valentine's Day Sunrise - 02/14/2014 - Metropolis, Illinois

It was much more delightful shooting this morning with the massive rise in temps, bringing us to about 35 degrees!!

A nice big shot of the sky from the corner of 9th and Girard...

A branch at the corner of 9th and Girard just aching to bloom out and delight us...

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this shot!!  I was just about to come back inside and I noticed this lone little cluster of ice cycles hanging on for dear life and the sunrise twinkling through them looked so fantastically prismatic...

Metropolis, IL Sunrise - 2/7/2014

It's a cold one this morning! I'd love to want to bundle up and take off into the woods with my camera, but I just can't muster it...
Come on Spring!

Metropolis, IL -Saturday Morning Sunrise - 01/18/2014

I only got yesterday's sunrise photo as far as the KCoJax Candids Facebook Page... But this morning I checked the facebook feed as I was sipping my java and my friend Jay posted the most fantastic red sunrise! It was in fact SO fantastic that I jumped up (in my PJs) threw on a scarf, a hoodie and a hat, grabbed my camera and bolted out the back door...

While I was out there meandering around... having a ciggy with one hand and shooting with the other, I noticed how the light was hitting this tree... It caused me to put my ciggy out so I could get down and waller around on the ground for this shot... You're welcome!

Have a Grand and Groovy Day!

My First Trip to Marcy Jo's Mealhouse in Pottsville, TN

When this place came into view, I simply shrieked!

I had looked it up online and Evan had gone on and on about it - so I "knew" what to expect, but seeing it live and in person was just fantastic!

It's just about the most quaint and welcoming little place you will ever see... and it is LITTLE! If you blink, you'll miss it - so whatever you do,
DON'T BLINK!

When we walked in, I gasped so loud people turned to look...  The screen door sounds just like your granny's did and the old wooden floors greet your tootsies with old timey warmth upon entering...

The photo below shows the view from the front door... Will you just take a look at this beautifully fantastical little world full of eye candy...

The shot below was taken from the balcony area, which houses Sugar Plum Lane - owned by Laura Ring - in this area many local artisans display their wares...

The food was amazing... Good home cooking... I had eggs, bacon, fried potatoes and wheat toast (homemade bread) -

We were there just a few days before Christmas and

Marcy Jo's Mealhouse & Bakery on Urbanspoonthere wasn't a large crowd, but they were out of their famous cookbooks (( :^(  ))

If you're in the neighborhood, this is a MUST TRY!

You'll find it in Columbia / Pottsville, TN - not too terribly far from Nashville and WELL worth the drive...

See the links below for more...

Favorites from this Year - Afternoon with the Abletts

Three of my favorite faces!  This year we did our second shoot together in April while these three siblings were together for Spring Break... This shoot took place in Downtown Paducah - our last shoot took place a couple of years ago in Metropolis...

My First Trip to Arnold's Meat & 3 - Nashville, TN

On a recent trip to Nashville, Evan insisted that we try to have lunch at Arnold's before leaving town...

Arnold's Country Kitchen on Urbanspoon
As we arrived I couldn't help but notice that there was a line out the door and nearly to the street.  You'll forgive me for not having a photo of that, I was busy spewing curse words and insisting that this food could not possibly be worth this line, especially on the last day of the trip when I was starting to become anxious to be back in my "bubble of home"...

As it turned out, I was as wrong as wrong can be my friends...

Not only is it worth standing in line, it's worth the drive to Nashville if you're in that region of the country... You MUST check the hours first though, they're not open on weekends - Phenomenal food, absolutely the best Turnip Greens I have ever eaten, an interesting atmosphere and an overall great experience....

Below is a video I was able to find online to give us a little more background on the place .... enjoy!

A Sunday Drive - Part 3 - Makanda Smiley Face Water Tower

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this smiley face water tower!  I skimmed around to see if I could find in what year it was erected and I could not - however I did learn that it gained it's bow tie in 2004 in memory of lifelong resident, Paul Simon.  Makanda has a fascinating history, you can read more about it here...

There are TWENTY-SIX smiley face water towers in the U.S. and FIVE of them are in Illinois...
